Cybersecurity is crucial for every organization. It encompasses everything that relates to protecting the organizational data from cyber attackers who want to steal and use it to cause harm. For that reason, the employees and the organization itself shall have excellent knowledge and skills of cybersecurity.

Skills for a Successful Cybersecurity

A successful cybersecurity requires several skills. First, solid work habits. It could drive success, as well as increase employee’s contribution and job satisfaction. Next, technical skills. It is important to understand the basic technical skills used in cybersecurity such as architecture, administration, management of operating systems, networking, virtualization software, as well as common programming languages. Then, soft skills. Beside technical skills, several soft skills such as presentation, communication, ability to articulate complex concepts, and active listening skills could be beneficial to avoid misunderstanding while communicating complicated subjects.

Furthermore, the next skill is called implementation skills. After knowing the theory of cybersecurity, employees shall be able to implement it through examining the organization’s security system and identifying the security controls including how they are used. After that, management skills shall also be possessed by employees for a successful cybersecurity. This skill could be helpful to organize and coordinate technical vulnerability assessments, set technical direction for managing security incidents, and ensure the integrity of the resulting process and approach. Lastly, grasp the big picture. It means that employees not only need to understand security concepts and principles, but they also need to know the most up-to-date privacy and security regulations to get better perspectives.

Current In-Demand Cybersecurity Skills

When organizations undergo digital transformation, the risk of being exposed to cyber-attacks is higher. Thus, security professionals need the right combination of multiple security skills. First, risk management. The purpose is to identify and reduce threats to the organization, as well as address risks and implement appropriate defences. Next, DevSecOps. In building an application, this skill enables organizations to add security measures into the application design and development phase to ensure more secure apps. Next threat haunting. It helps to search cyber threats lurking undetected and find malicious actors that have slipped into the security system. Lastly, interpersonal skills. This skill shall be possessed in order to help employees communicate with stakeholders effectively.

Benefits of Cybersecurity Training

In digital era when cybercrime could happen at any moment, organizations could not deny that possess the knowledge and skills of cybersecurity is very crucial. Hence, it is exceptionally important for employees in organization to be educated and trained in cybersecurity training. Thus, they will be armed with sufficient information, skills, and therefore bring benefits for the organization.

First, cybersecurity training helps organization to be more secured. It raises awareness of security threats and enables everyone in organization to prevent major losses and reduce errors. Next, saves time and money. Organizations will lose a lot of money because of data breaches and other cyber-attacks; therefore, the cost of the training will be worth it if it can protect the organization in the future. In addition, if an attack were to occur, the team would spend less time to repair the damages as they have been educated and trained.

After that, cybersecurity training empowers employees. It equips them with proper knowledge and raises their confidence and awareness of risks which enables them to tackle daily threats and occurrences quickly and without hesitation. Lastly, cybersecurity training helps organizations retain customers’ trust. It is worth to remember that cyberattack could damage an organization’s credibility and thereby result in a loss of customers and partnerships. This can be prevented if employees have excellent knowledge and skills which can be acquired through cybersecurity training.

As every aspect in this world is transforming digitally, it would be easier for organizations to be exposed to cybercrimes. Therefore, having sufficient cybersecurity skills and taking cybersecurity training are indeed important and inevitable.
